Louise Ellis – owner/operator of Central West breeding and agistment property Argyle Thoroughbreds at Panuara is excited with results in an open maiden race at Toowoomba last Saturday.
The third placed horse, Lord Wivenhoe, is the first horse to race as well as being bred in Eastern Australia by her US bred stallion Mosayter, who holds court at the Orange-district property.
“It is his (Mosayter) first money earner from horses bred at Argyle” Mrs Ellis said. “He (Lord Wivenhoe) is one of only about a dozen foals in his (Mosayter) first crop, so it’s great he has come up with a racing two year old that has placed”.
Prepared at Kumbria by James Curtain, Lord Wivenhoe was bred by Peter Marshall from “Staghurst”, Toolgoolawah, Queensland, who has been a supporter of Mosayter, a horse bred on the same cross as former leading sire Tale Of The Cat (being by US iconic sire Storm Cat and produced from a Mr Prospector mare).
Previously an easy trial winner, LordWivenhoe can be grouped with a few other Mosayter two year olds, for example one in the Tony McEvoy stables at Hawkesbury (and who is half-brother to good Sydney sprinter Havana Rey), while Goulburn trainer Kurt Goldman has three Mosayter juvenile horses getting ready to race.
But breeders should recall some older flag-bearers by Mosayter among his 33 winning sons and daughters having been gained from his stud start in Western Australia. These include Mr Moet, a WA Horse Of The Year who has won 12 races including that states premier mile the WATC Railway Stakes and 1.6 million. On a Melbourne campaign Mr Moet finished third in the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) CF Orr Stakes-G1.
Others include stakes placed Solsay, already a winner of eight races – five in Perth and two at Moonee Valley and a likely Melbourne competitor next spring, and Travinator – has won eight races and another stakes placed galloper now shooting for stakes winning glory.
A winner accross a mile himself, Mosayter belongs to the blue-blooded stakes matron Bashayer, a daughter of Height Of Fashion, a distinguished broodmare bred by Queen Elizabeth II.
A dual group winner by Bustino, Height Of Fashion is a United Kingdom Stud Book jewel, dam of eight winners including five stakes winners.
Mosayter stands beside reliable winner-getting sire Marechal (by Danzero), who can list 73 winning progeny hot is credit
